What Is Kindle’s “Recap” Feature?

Released by Amazon in April 2025, the new Kindle feature “Recap” automatically summarizes the content of an opened Kindle eBook.

In short, it is a function that generates a quick summary of the book’s storyline.

The Recap feature is especially useful when reading series books, as it allows readers to easily review the plot of previous volumes. Even if you paused reading for a long time or a new volume was released after some time, you can quickly catch up with the story development and characters.

The Recap content is created by Amazon’s AI, which summarizes the eBook on its servers. When users open a Kindle book, a notification appears at the top offering the Recap feature, and the summary can be viewed with minimal waiting time.

The Recap feature is first available on selected Kindle models. Below is the list of supported devices:

Supported Kindle eBooks for “Recap”

Limited to “US text-based Kindle books” as of April 2025

As of April 2025, Recap is limited to text-based Kindle titles available in the US. Expansion to other regions is planned in the future.

Not Yet Applicable to Manga or Magazines

Currently, Recap is only mentioned for text-based works. Compatibility with non-text content such as manga or magazines has not been announced.

While summarization is relatively easy with text-based content thanks to AI advancements, image-heavy content such as manga and magazines requires extracting text from images, which is technically difficult and costly for now. Therefore, support for such works may take considerable time.
