Install the Kindle App on All Your Frequently Used Devices
The very first thing you should do is install the Kindle app on all the devices you often use.
If your main reading device is a Kindle e-reader, you can skip this step. However, installing the Kindle app on your smartphone makes it extremely convenient, as you can read during your commute or while traveling.
With the Kindle app installed, you can also take advantage of the "Send to Device" feature described later, which allows you to automatically download book data to your selected device.
Manage Downloads per Device Easily with Amazon’s "Send to Device"
When reading Kindle books on multiple devices, downloading book data on each device can be the most troublesome task.
However, by using the "Manage Your Content and Devices" page on Amazon’s website, managing your Kindle books across multiple devices becomes dramatically easier.
On the "Manage Your Content and Devices" page, you can control which device downloads the book data, and manage the status of all your Kindle devices and Kindle apps directly from the web.
By selecting a book from your content list and clicking "Send to Device," you can check the devices you normally use and send the book, so it automatically downloads without needing to manually perform the download task on the device itself.
Books sent via "Send to Device" will automatically download if:
- The device is powered on
- Wi-Fi is enabled
Turn On the Sync Feature (Whispersync)
Amazon’s sync feature (Whispersync) automatically syncs your reading progress, notes, and highlights to Amazon’s cloud, as long as your reading device is connected to the internet.
By turning on this feature, you can smoothly continue reading, such as "picking up where you left off on your Kindle device or tablet and continuing on your smartphone" (or vice versa).
If you only read Kindle books on one device, this function is not essential since your reading data is stored locally on that device. But if you use multiple devices, it is without a doubt a must-have feature.
